Savannah native, Cole York, graduated with a BA in Studio Art and minor in Environmental Studies from Sewanee: The University of the South in May 2014. Cole now lives between Chattanooga, Tennessee and Cusco, Peru. Cole is passionate about education, outdoor adventure, and creativity. Additionally, Cole is the co-program director of a local NGO, Escalando Esperanzas, and continues to pursue her photography practice.
Fed by her curiosity of culture, Cole uses photography to explore relationships between cross cultural, socioeconomic, and racial boundaries. She is intrigued by meeting people from backgrounds other than her own and by the differences of story, language, and tradition. "Normal" becomes a relative term. Her work explores how humans connect and empathize with one another regardless of cultural differences.
